It isn\u2019t only Lynden teachers learning a new way to engage students during virtual and hybrid learning models. Students have joined the fray too. At Lynden Middle School, the ASB team has gotten creative, holding virtual assemblies and offering up daily announcements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It all comes with the purpose to \u201chelp keep Lion Pride alive,\u201d says principal Molly Mitchell-Mumma. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur ASB officers and student leaders have been determined to keep our traditions alive during this pandemic,\u201d says LHS assistant principal Cyndi Selcho. \u201cIt\u2019s important for our students to maintain connection to their school and recognize they are a community.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Selcho says the ASB officers of Finley Freeman, Maddy Kok, Caleb Rus, Molly Gerecke and Alexa VanderPol have had to think differently to promote school spirit and community involvement during the pandemic. The ASB team all agreed it was important to still host the annual LMS Food Drive supporting Project Hope, Lynden\u2019s food bank. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cStudents came together even though we weren\u2019t in the building to help our community,\u201d Selcho says. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ASB team strives to create connections, knowing that a connected student is more likely to attend more regularly and achieve higher levels of academic success. The virtual assemblies, where all students get invited to participate, include organizing fun challenges, edited together into an entertaining video with the help of Robert Kratzig, LMS dean of students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese virtual assemblies help remind our students that school is more than a building,\u201d Selcho says. \u201cIt is a community of learners who can still have fun and help our community even though we can\u2019t all be together.\u201d <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
